The Noël Greig Travel Bursary for young writers
This bursary was launched at the Contacting the World 2010 festival.
Noël was an avid traveller whose adventures took him to many parts of the globe. His journeys enabled him to connect with a diverse range of people; many became long-standing friends. Every journey whether down the road or across the world was, for Noël, full of possibility and learning that impacted on his own playwriting – through new characters, new stories, new ideas. The young writers travel bursary was created by donations to honour Noël’s talent and encourage young new writers to build on his legacy following his death in 2009.
The bursary offers up to £750 for young writers under 30 towards travel costs (as eco-friendly as possible…) for exploring a new idea
To apply send a letter of application outlining the idea and why the bursary is important to you, a budget outlining how the bursary will be used and a CV including two referees to Kully Thiarai, Contact Theatre, Oxford Road, Manchester M15 6JA.
If you have any queries contact kully at kullythiarai@mac.com
The deadline for applications is 30th September 2010. Good luck!

Places are extremely limited for this exciting and active day’s workshop where participants will work on adapting and staging a classic short tale. A workshop on action and how to create it. How to make a play that works. And moves. And dances. Four of Chris Hannan’s plays have premiered at the Traverse, including the hugely acclaimed Shining Souls and the contemporary classic Elizabeth Gordon Quinn. His other plays have been staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company, NTS, and Sir Peter Hall at the Old Vic. His debut novel, Missy, was awarded the 2009 McKitterick Prize by the Society of Authors.
